Hopefully the celebration won’t be ruined by things that make the Big Board look like this:

Brooklyn Museum offers 2-for1 MetroCard® Deal in March & April
From March 1 to April 30 customers will receive 2-for-1 admission to the museum when they show their MetroCard at the Museum Admissions.
Of course, the admission price of “Suggested Contribution: $10” means that this one of those “pay what you want, we can’t force you” places, like many NYC museums, so…
New York Times article
Teams of people representing CIROC, the “Official Vodka of New Year’s Eve” – and Sean “Diddy” Combs will distribute thousands of debit and MTA Metrocards to adult consumers (while supplies last) in New York City between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. Each debit card will provide up to $15.00 in cab fare – the approximate cost of a single taxicab fare within New York City. All MTA Metrocards are redeemable for a one-way subway or bus fare valued at $2.25.
First of all, $15 of cab fare will not take you any significant distance. If you’re taking a cab, you’re probably going further than just to the UWS or the UES or to Williamsburg. He should really be giving out $30 to $40 debit cards.
Second of all, what is this $2.25 Metrocard? Is it really just a normal green-on-white single ride Metrocard? Seems unlikely, since they normally expire within 2 hours. So will it be a normal pay-per-ride Metrocard? Will it be branded for the Vodka? If you get one, please let me know. And if it’s a special Metrocard and you want to let me have it when you’re done with it, that would be swell
They’re doing it again! Just like last year, the world famous Radio City Rockettes will be riding the nostalgia train tomorrow to promote the current MetroCard Deal, which saves you $10 off of tickets to select performances of the Christmas Spectacular.
If you’re in the area, I encourage you to come join the Rockettes on this ride of the 1930’s Era IND Nostalgia Train (also known as the R-1/9 type cars, or “Arnines”). You’ll be able to meet the Rockettes, have your picture taken with them, and experience what it was like to ride the subway in the 1930’s! I took this ride last year and I can tell you it is a lot of fun.
The event begins at 10:00 AM at World Trade Center station on the (E) line, but the train might not actually leave the station until a little while later. Once it leaves, with you and the Rockettes onboard, it will run up to the 47th-50th Sts-Rockefeller Center station, making stops along the way.
Here are some photos I took of last year’s event:

As I exited the rat hole that is the current Penn Station, I was offered my choice of four new flavors of glaceau’s vitaminwater10 “low cal nutrient enhanced water beverage”. I went for “recoup”, which is “peach-mandarin”. Don’t recall what the other three new flavors were. I picked up my bottle at the corner of 8 Av and 31 St. They weren’t on ice, though the chilly morning has the bottle feeling a tad cold. I’ll cool it down in the fridge anyhow before trying it.
Wait, I found a list of the new flavors in a press release from earlier this month:
- go-go (mixed berry)
- mega-c (grape raspberry)
- recoup (peach-mandarin)
- revitalize (green tea)
