These people do not belong in subway tunnels, and they should not be vandalizing public property. Let what happened to this kid be a lesson to others like him.

MARTA’s Yellow Line – some say a poor choice of name
Wednesday, February 10th, 2010Some in the Asian community in Atlanta do not like the name of the subway line though their community – the Yellow Line. All the MARTA subway lines were renamed last year to reflect colors instead of compass directions.
Article 1: MARTA ‘yellow line’ to Doraville angers some in Asian community
Article 2: Mixed reaction on MARTA’s ‘yellow line’ rebranding
I think I’ll just have to go down there myself to form my opinion

(1) and (6) trains had big problems this morning
Sunday, January 10th, 2010Things did not look good for the IRT No. 1 and 6 subway lines this morning. The (1) had signal problems at three different stations all at the same time!
- 116th Street-Columbia University Station
- 59th Street-Columbus Circle Station
- Marble Hill-225th Street Station
While the (6) had a track problem at the Westchester Square Station.
The (1) problems were resolved one by one, with the last one cleared up at 1:41 PM. Unfortunately, at 4:01 PM, more signal problems cropped up along the (1), this time at the 125th Street Station. That issue was fixed over four hours later, at 8:39 PM, according to the service alerts emails.

Rockettes to ride subway to promote Metrocard deal for Radio City Christmas Spectacular tickets
Wednesday, November 18th, 2009They’re doing it again! Just like last year, the world famous Radio City Rockettes will be riding the nostalgia train tomorrow to promote the current MetroCard Deal, which saves you $10 off of tickets to select performances of the Christmas Spectacular.
If you’re in the area, I encourage you to come join the Rockettes on this ride of the 1930’s Era IND Nostalgia Train (also known as the R-1/9 type cars, or “Arnines”). You’ll be able to meet the Rockettes, have your picture taken with them, and experience what it was like to ride the subway in the 1930’s! I took this ride last year and I can tell you it is a lot of fun.
The event begins at 10:00 AM at World Trade Center station on the (E) line, but the train might not actually leave the station until a little while later. Once it leaves, with you and the Rockettes onboard, it will run up to the 47th-50th Sts-Rockefeller Center station, making stops along the way.
Here are some photos I took of last year’s event:

Ride the subway to the Yankees World Series Champions Ticker Tape Parade
Thursday, November 5th, 2009MTA New York City Transit has provided some good advice on how to best travel to the ticker tape parade celebrating the New York Yankees victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2009 baseball World Series:
Although the Lexington Avenue line serves the Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall, Fulton Street-Broadway/Nassau, Wall Street, and Bowling Green stations, Yankees’ fans should be aware that the 4 5 6 lines are usually crowded during normal weekday rush hour along the corridor.
Instead, fans are encouraged to use the 1 line or the R or W lines to Rector Street, or the E to World Trade Center. Fans should also consider taking the 2 or 3 lines to Chambers Street or Wall Street, and the J to the Broad Street station.
Crowding conditions at the City Hall R and W station, Park Place 2 and 3 station and nearby 4 5 6 Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall station may force trains to bypass those stations during the parade and ceremony at City Hall. All lines affected will be monitored by supervision to ensure smooth operation.
Read the entire press release for this November 6, 2009 event, here. I’ve also provided an image of the Special Event poster for the parade, as well as an image of the revised World Series poster from earlier in the week:
In addition, both Metro-North and the Long Island Rail Road will be running extra trains to bring fans to and from the parade. Click the preceding links for the train schedules.
Need a proctology clinic? Check your Metrocard.
Tuesday, October 27th, 2009I couldn’t believe that I had found a real Metrocard when I picked it up off a reader in a midtown subway station this evening. But it seems to be legit. A proctology clinic advertising on a Metrocard.
A google search reveals that billboards of a similar design have appeared recently around New York City. Except that the billboards use a peach where the Metrocard shows an apple. So there’s a line – a peach/butt crosses it, but proctology itself does not. Good to know.
